Four institutions were behind the „Rákóczi 350” Carpathian Basin Tárogató Competition, organised to mark the 350th anniversary of the birth of Ferenc II. Rákóczi: Sárospatak Local Council, the Sárospatak Reformed Theological University, the Tokaj-Hegyalja University and the National Tárogató Institute Foundation – as shared by the Tokaj-Hegyalja University’s official website.
A cultural strategic partnership to support the competition, which is to be held in Sárospatak from 26 to 28 October 2026 , , was signed on 10 August. The aim of the initiative is to keep the tradition of the tarogato alive for younger generations, whilst also strengthening the cultural cohesion of the Carpathian Basin.
What makes this event special is that the main prize will be an antique Stowasser tarogato made from Madagascan rosewood that is over a hundred years old; in addition, two further master tarogatos will also be awarded.
