The Tokaj-Hegyalja, Taktaköz, Hernád Valley Tourism and Cultural Association (TTHE) has been awarded a non-repayable grant under the Interreg Hungary–Slovakia Programme as part of the action plan entitled „From Košice Tokajig – the development of active and cultural tourism”.
János Májer, Chair of TDM (tourism destination management) believes that the project could take the cooperation between Košice and Tokaj to a new level and make a significant contribution to enhancing the region’s appeal as a tourist destination.
The amount of the EU contribution for TTHE is: EUR 66,544.21
National contribution: EUR 12,477.04
Own funds: 4,159.02 EUR
#kosice2tokaj aims to promote Košice and the Tokaj region as a single tourist destination, bringing together the region’s historical, cultural and natural assets.
As a result of these developments, a cross-border tourist route will be created from Košice to Tokajig, showcasing the region’s castles, historic monuments and winemaking traditions, as well as opportunities for walking, cycling and water-based tourism.
Exhibition on the historical links between Tokaj and Košice
As part of the action plan, new riverside facilities are being built along the Hernád and Bodrog rivers, including car parks, jetties, promenades, and SUP and kayak hire points. In addition, a standardised system of tourist signposts will help to link up walking and cycling routes in Hungary and Slovakia.
The cultural elements of the project include an Tokaj wine region and Košice, as well as the renovation of the Košice Children’s Railway engine shed, which will in future serve as a multifunctional educational and exhibition space.
The action plan is coordinated by the Coordination and Communication Project (CCP), led by Visit Košice. TTHE plays a key role in the implementation of the project in Hungary; in addition to supporting and coordinating consortium cooperation, it is also responsible for project monitoring and reporting, organising training sessions and study visits, organising an international tourism conference, and ensuring communication and public relations.
