Magyar a Magyarért Népfőiskola Alapítvány invites those interested to a special cultural event. On Friday 26 June, from 5.00 pm, Pál Makovecz will give a talk on his father, Imre Makovecz – his life and work at the headquarters of the Tokaji Miklós Pap People’s College.
At the event, participants will have the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the career of one of the best-known figures in Hungarian organic architecture, his creative approach and the intellectual legacy that remains a defining part of Hungarian architectural thought to this day.
Architect and human being
Imre Makovecz (1935–2011), an architect and recipient of the Kossuth and Miklós Ybl Prizes, was the founder of Hungarian organic architecture. His name is associated with such iconic works as the Hungarian pavilion at the Seville World Expo, the Onion House in Makó, the Church of the Holy Spirit in Paks, and the campus of Péter Pázmány Catholic University in Piliscsaba. He was also the founder and first president of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
During the lecture, Pál Makovecz recalls his father’s life, thoughts and work through personal anecdotes, allowing the audience to get to know not only the architect but also the man himself a little better.
