The Tokaji Writers" Camp Association, which looks back on a history of more than five decades, can now begin the next phase of its operations in a revitalised setting. The project Tokaj was carried out as a joint venture between the City Council and the Tokaji Writers’ Camp Association.
Where history, culture, tradition and creativity come together
The development involves not only the renovation of a building, but also the creation of a cultural space that both preserves the heritage of Tokaj and provides a fitting venue for future literary and community initiatives.
As György Posta , mayor of Tokaj, Facebook post: Tokaj has always been a city of encounters, where history, culture, tradition and creative spirit reinforce one another to shape the city’s character. As he put it, it is a particular pleasure that the project was realised through the collaboration of the local council and the association, which once again demonstrates that, through joint efforts, developments that create long-term value can be achieved.
The Tokaji Writers’ Retreat has been a key player in Hungarian literary life for more than fifty years. Writers, poets, literary historians and public intellectuals from successive generations have gathered here, and as a result the institution has become one of the most important intellectual hubs not only for Tokaj, but for Hungarian cultural life as a whole.
During the opening ceremony , several new works of art were installed in the building, further enriching Tokaj’s cultural identity and creating an even more inspiring environment for creative work. The new centre welcomes not only writers and artists, but also all those who consider it important to preserve the values of Hungarian culture, literature and community life.
