A Bike Picnic In recent years, it has grown to become one of the region’s most popular community cycling events. This year, the organisers are once again welcoming anyone who’d like to spend a fun-filled day on two wheels – without any pressure to keep up or competitive atmosphere.
The tour on 23 May departs in the morning Nyíregyháza from Kossuth Square, and the final destination is Tokaj and the Fesztiválkatlan will take place. Along the route, which is nearly 35 kilometres long, there will be several rest stops to assist participants: in Nyírtelek, Tiszanagyfalu-Virányos and Rakamazon, cyclists will be treated to mineral water, fruit and scones – according to the event On Facebook.
A circus atmosphere greets visitors at Tokaj
A new feature of this year’s event is that the BringaCIRKUSZ programme will create a festival atmosphere at the destination. At the Fesztiválkatlan in Tokaj, performers, clowns, mimes, aerialists and cycling displays will be waiting to welcome visitors, whilst music and community activities will fill the afternoon.
There will be a chance to grab a bite to eat after the ride. For a nominal fee of Minimal Gasztro, a variety of dishes will be available for those who’ve worked up an appetite by the end of the ride.
And if that’s not enough, there’s the Hegykerülő
Anyone who doesn’t want to get off their bike when they reach Tokaj can join the For the mountain bypass. The additional ride, covering around 20 kilometres, takes in the Tokaj wine region, so participants can continue the day with another group ride.
Combining the Bike Picnic and the Mountain Loop has become a tradition in recent years, and for many people it is now an integral part of the whole cycling experience.
Service, medical supervision and return transport for cyclists
The organisers will once again be providing a mobile service van and medical supervision this year, and an ambulance will also be on standby in Tokaj. Before the start, there will also be an opportunity to register for BikeSafe free of charge in Nyíregyháza, which helps to keep a safer record of bicycles.
The return journey is made individually, but the MÁV also attaches bicycle-carrying carriages to the afternoon services on the Tokaj–Nyíregyháza line. However, for those who would prefer to stay in the saddle on the return journey, there is a Florida Ice Cream Parlour is offering a special deal.
