There’s a place Tokaj where, the moment you arrive, you feel as though you’ve been transported to a distant continent. Minaro Hotel Tokaj – MGallery Collection has always built its image on the unique features of the former andesite mine and the atmosphere of the South American world, but in recent months it has further developed this concept.
The thematic design is now evident in almost every corner of the hotel. Upon arrival, the South American motifs immediately catch the eye, whilst the Tumi statue towering in front of the hotel instantly sets the tone. In the lobby, guests are greeted by new decorations, sculptures, plants and Inca-inspired decorative elements, which evoke the world of Peru and the Amazon even more vividly.
A rescued sloth is a permanent resident of the hotel
One of the most endearing aspects of the revamp was undoubtedly the arrival of a sloth. The animal was brought to Tokaj as part of a rescue programme, where the hotel created a jungle environment for it that resembles its natural habitat.
In this specially designed enclosure, a controlled temperature, humidification and ventilation system recreates the Amazonian climate, whilst providing the sloth with plenty of opportunities to climb and rest. Visitors can observe the animal, but its peace and quiet are respected at all times, so direct contact with it is not permitted.
„We can already tell how much it adds to the hotel’s atmosphere. It has somehow made the whole space feel more peaceful and welcoming,” said István Tisza, the hotel’s marketing manager.
The Amazon moves into the wellness sector
Not only the communal areas, but also the wellness area has been given a completely new look. The former L’OCCITANE Spa now welcomes guests as the Amazonas Spa, where the jungle theme is reflected in every detail.
In place of the former salt room, a tropical-style relaxation area has been created featuring water beds; new themed cabins have been built; and authentic South American wellness experiences have also been introduced.
One of the most exciting new additions is the temazcal steam ritual, available every day, which draws inspiration from ancient Mesoamerican purification rituals. The programme includes a symbolic purification using the smoke of palo santo wood, as well as a steam cabin exfoliation treatment designed to refresh both body and mind.
Personalised rooms
The range of rooms on offer has also undergone a significant overhaul. The hotel has introduced several new categories to make it easier for guests to find the accommodation that best suits their needs.
Superior rooms can now be booked with a view of the garden, the mine or the swimming pool, whilst the Premium category has been divided into rooms with panoramic views and those overlooking the swimming pool. Guests staying in the Premium rooms on the upper floors will find a complimentary minibar, whilst the suites have been enhanced with new Inca motifs. The ambience of the rooms is completed by Mayan calendar motifs, warm earth tones and a bathroom inspired by the tropical forest.
Cocktails from around the world
The culinary offering also reflects this experience-focused approach. The hotel is currently welcoming guests with the World Cocktails programme series, which showcases the cocktail cultures of different regions around the world, accompanied by carefully curated canapés. During the summer months, spa programmes featuring regular DJ sets further enhance the summer atmosphere.
An exotic trip without a passport
According to the management of Minaro, these developments form part of a deliberate strategy.
The aim was not merely to create a spectacular hotel, but to craft a complex world of experiences that truly transports guests away from their everyday lives.
„We wanted to further build on the original vision of creating a unique hotel with a truly South American atmosphere. Now that travel to many exotic destinations around the world has become uncertain, we would like to offer a domestic alternative that rivals long-haul travel in terms of the experience it provides,” said István Tisza.
Although the current developments represent a significant milestone, the theme-based development is by no means over. The hotel’s management plans to introduce new ideas and elements that will further enrich the unique South American world of Minaro.
