Residents of Tokaj are invited to take part in a community tree-planting event as part of the national afforestation programme. The initiative not only makes the town’s environment more liveable, but also offers a community experience for all participants – as stated by Mayor György Posta on his Facebook page.
New trees on Ady Endre Street and Tarcali Road
As part of the Urban Afforestation Programme, a total of 30 mountain maple saplings will be planted on Ady Endre Street and Tarcali Road. The tree-planting event will take place on 4 May 2026 at 9:00 am. The organisers warmly welcome anyone interested to attend.
One of the country’s largest afforestation programmes
The aim of the Ministry of Agriculture’s coordinated afforestation and reforestation programmes is to ensure that, by 2030, 27 per cent of the country’s territory is covered by forests and woodland.
Part of this is the Urban Afforestation Programme, which is the largest urban afforestation initiative of the post-regime change era.
The programme is not only significant from an environmental perspective, but also plays an important role in raising awareness, as it draws attention to sustainability and the importance of afforestation.
