It has been included amongst the mere fifty Best in Show wines: Oremus Winery 6 puttonyos 2016 Tokaji Aszú in this year’s edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA).
This year marked the 23rd edition of the Decanter World Wine Awardsot in London. This time, nearly 17,000 entries from 58 countries were submitted to the competition, and 245 wine experts gathered to judge them, including 63 Master of Wine and 24 Master Sommelier – according to the Kreinbacher Estate in Somló, which won one platinum, one gold and two silver medals at the competition with its MTI.
Even amongst the platinum medallists, those from Tokaj are in the majority
Under the judging process, which is conducted in accordance with extremely strict rules, gold medals are awarded only to wines scoring 95 points or above, whilst the platinum award is given to the very finest entries – a total of 198 this year (97–100 points) – following a re-tasting of the gold medallists.
Hungary has once again excelled, with the distinguished jury awarding a total of 8 platinum, 15 gold, 52 silver and 68 bronze medals to entries from our country.
One of the Hungarian wines to make it into the competition’s top fifty was the 2016 6-puttonyos Tokaji Aszú from the Oremus Winery in Tolcsva. Among the platinum medals awarded to Hungarian wines this year, Tokaji wines make up the majority:
Antalóczy, Balassa Bor (two platinum awards), Béres, Füleky and Juliet Victor also earned this recognition.
Alongside the Tokaj wines, a red blend from Villány named Heumann Pince La Trinita and a Somló sparkling wine named Kreinbacher Birtok Brut Classic were awarded platinum medals.
