Tokaj is celebrating with a special event on the first weekend of June. The Tokaji Bornapok is not just about wine this year, but also about the city’s regeneration. The series of events, taking place on 5–6 June at , welcomes visitors as a kind of ceremonial reopening of the renovated main square and its associated amenities.
The revitalised town centre welcomes the people of Tokaj and visitors alike with a fresh new look; during the event, they will have the chance to experience not only the treasures of the wine region but also its unique atmosphere at first hand.
Events taking place at various locations around the city
One of the key new features of this year’s Bornapok is that the events will not be held at a single central venue, but will take place at various locations across the city, with smaller venues organised to welcome visitors.
The event’s slogan – „Up close and personal with the winemakers” – perfectly captures the organisers’ aim: to enable visitors to get to know Tokaj’s winemakers and service providers in person, and to experience the town’s cultural life, whilst exploring the town centre.
There will be a buzz of activity at several venues
Over the weekend, a number of well-known venues in Tokaj will be taking part in the programme series. Among others, the following are organising events: Antalóczy Pince, Hímesudvar, Óvárborozó, Paulay Borház, Préskert, Szerelmi Pince, Tokaj Fesztiválkatlan, and Tokaj-Hétszőlő Rákóczi Pince.
In addition to the wine-tasting experiences, musical, cultural and culinary programmes round off the event, ensuring that there is something for everyone, whatever their age.
One of the highlights of the event will be the official handover of the Mayors’ Wine.
„40 Years in Pictures” – an exhibition on the town’s history in the main square
An exhibition entitled „40 Years in Pictures” is opening in the refurbished main square. The exhibition marks the fact that Tokaj regained its town status exactly 40 years ago.
Through archive photographs, the exhibition looks back at the city’s past decades, showcasing its development, community life and defining moments.
