The development of the 100c railway line between Nyíregyháza and Mezőzombor has reached another milestone. The MÁV Group has signed a contract to carry out reconstruction work on several railway bridges in the region. One of the most significant elements of the project is the complete refurbishment of the nearly 200-metre-long Hosszú Bridge, located on the Tisza floodplain between Tokaj and Rakamaz, situated on the floodplain section of the River Tisza.

Hundreds of bridge girders are being replaced
The reconstruction of the Hosszú Bridge involves not only the rebuilding of the railway track but also significant structural work. During the works, more than 330 bridge girders will be replaced, the intermediate supports will be reinforced, the bridge abutments will be repaired, and nearly 6,700 square metres of steel structure will undergo anti-corrosion refurbishment.
Both the Tisza Bridge and the Ladik Bridge are affected
The project is not limited to the Hosszú Bridge. Pillar reinforcement work is being carried out on the Ladik Bridge, whilst state-of-the-art inspection and access systems are being installed on the Tisza Bridge at Tokaj.
These developments enable faster, safer and more efficient inspection of bridge structures, which helps to improve the reliability of their operation.
They can ensure operational reliability for decades
According to information provided by the MÁV group, the primary aim of the refurbishments is to preserve the condition of the infrastructure and maintain long-term operational safety. This investment clearly demonstrates that the development of railway infrastructure involves not only the modernisation of tracks and overhead lines, but also the renewal of engineering facilities that ensure the smooth running of rail services day in, day out in the Tokaj area.
