The Vince Magazine recently reported on an unparalleled Hungarian success on its website. They write that James Suckling, an American wine and cigar critic, is one of the world’s leading wine experts and a leading wine critic. From 1981, he was a member of the team at the authoritative Wine Spectator magazine for three decades.
He and his team of experts taste thousands of wines and score them on a 100-point scale. The whole world pays close attention to his reviews, which determine business successes and failures.
And now for the important bit:
This time, a unique Hungarian success has been achieved, as – according to the website – no other Hungarian dry white wine has ever received such a high score from James Suckling and his team. Zoltán Demeter’s 2025 vintage Boda Furmint was awarded 97 points. Alongside the score, the wine critics published the following tasting notes:
„It is characterised by outstanding purity and precision; its aroma is complex and concentrated, with notes of flint, crushed stone, fresh lemon juice, citrus zest and slightly unripe Mirabelle plums, accompanied by delicate white floral nuances. It has a surprisingly youthful and vigorous character, with razor-sharp acidity and pronounced salinity. It is deeply structured and harmonious, with impressive tension and vigour. The old vines of one of Tokaj’s most renowned vineyards reveal their true strength in this outstanding vintage. Ready to drink now, but also suitable for ageing.”
